IMPROVING THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

Public education is the foundation of every community. We need to ensure our students are prepared to compete in an increasingly competitive and technological world. Students and teachers alike need more resources and better advocates.

I PROMISE TO:

  • Fight to fully fund our schools to give parent, students, and teachers the resources they need

  • Work alongside neighborhood advocates to increase community involvement in our schools

  • Advocate for greater access to resources for students to continue on to higher education institutions, including test preparation, counseling, and scholarships

IMPROVING THE FUTURE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

Public education is the foundation of every community. We need to ensure our students are prepared to compete in an increasingly competitive and technological world. Students and teachers alike need more resources and better advocates.

I PROMISE TO:

• Fight to fully fund our schools to give parents, students, and teachers the resources they need

• Work alongside neighborhood advocates to increase community involvement in our schools

• Advocate for greater access to resources for students to continue on to higher education institutions, including preparation, counseling, and scholarships

ADVOCATING FOR THE RIGHTS OF WORKERS

Labor unions are vital to the progress of our city. All workers deserve dignity and respect. We must work together as a city to ensure health and prosperity for all while enabling those who build, repair, and educate our city to care for their families.

I PROMISE TO:

• Work alongside my union brothers and sisters to ensure fair and prosperous workplaces for all

• Fight policies at the federal level that have an adverse effect on workers here in New York and across the country

• Increase funding for job training and apprenticeship programs

BUILDING UP LOCAL BUSINESSES

There are far too many storefronts in our communities that stay vacant for months and even years. We should implement incentives for local businesses to invest in our community and ensure that they are protected from predatory landlords that aren't tied to our community's success.

I PROMISE TO:

• Pass legislation to force landlords to rent fairly to small, local businesses

• Push for more incentives for local MWBE business owners that want to invest in our communities

• Work with local business improvement districts to increase awareness of the shops and businesses that exist within the district

REBUILDING OUR PUBLIC TRANSIT

Public transportation in NYC is a mess. We need a complete overhaul of the MTA so that hard working people can get to work on time and get home at a reasonable time without having to take a cab.

I PROMISE TO:

• Work to increase the availability and protection of bike lanes

• Push for more reliable train service on the R, F, & G lines, both on weekdays as well as weekends

• Fight against unfair rate hikes where New Yorkers pay more for less service

PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

With the release of the recent climate reports, it's clear that now more than ever we need to step up. As one of the biggest cities in the world, we have an obligation to lead the way in making changes for our future. This also means ensuring the integrity of our coastlines and protecting our neighborhoods from unnecessary air pollution.

I PROMISE TO:

• Ensure the BQE Cantilever project is completed without negative impact on our environment

• Support the development of green infrastructure to reduce the city’s dependence on fossil fuels

• Increase parkland and open space in Brooklyn so that families have better access to recreational facilities
