Statement on the State Budget

I am quite impressed with this year’s state budget. The TAP gap will be eliminated within the next four years; police reform was codified; we’re providing rent relief; and state workers are getting their back pay. And, the part I am most pleased about is that the CFE money has finally come through! However, we didn’t get everything we wanted: there are cuts to mental health, there is no New Deal for CUNY, and we could have used more revenue raisers. But, this budget is the culmination of years of progressive activism - we worked to elect supermajorities in Albany and the budget is a manifestation of that.
